Photo on the fly 2025
The “Foto al Vuelo” contest promises a special edition for 2025. This year the event celebrates its tenth anniversary with a new date for photography and nature lovers, to be held from February 17 to 22 in the Zapata Swamp.
Professional and amateur participants of any nationality will be able to live this unique experience of observation and learning about the fabulous Cuban fauna. In particular, they will have the opportunity to capture beautiful photographs of birds in their natural habitat in one of the most important Ramsar sites in the Caribbean Sea. This wetland is a very well-preserved ecosystem that stands out as a refuge for Cuba’s endemic birds and also attracts a large number of migratory species each year.
PROGRAM – November 17 to 22 (6 days / 5 nights)
17- HAVANA – PLAYA GIRÓN.
08:30 hrs. Breakfast at accommodation in Havana. Transfer to the National Botanical Garden. Tour of the garden, inauguration and lunch. Transfer from Havana to Ciénaga de Zapata.
16:00 hrs. Arrival at Playa Giron Hotel. Welcome cocktail reception. Check-In. Accreditation. Technical Counseling with the contestants of the event.
19:00 hrs. Dinner and Event Inauguration Activity.
18, 19, 20 – CIÉNAGA DE ZAPATA.
06:30 hrs. Departure to the trails. Includes 2 trails (one in the morning and one in the afternoon). Some of the trails are:
- Soplillar.
- The salt flats.
- Los Hondones region.
- Enigma of the Rocks.
- The Bermejas.
- The Peat.
- Santo Tomas.
Lunch on site. Return to the hotel Playa Giron.
19:30 hrs. Dinner and other activities.
19:00 hrs. Dinner and Event Inauguration Activity.
21- PLAYA GIRÓN.
The morning, session of the day for photographers to make the selection of the photographs with which they will compete in each modality.
13:00 hrs. Lunch. Later, the jury will begin its selection work.
Afterwards, there will be different recreational activities in the area.
19:30 hrs. Closing activity, awards and traditional Cuban dinner with show.
22 – PLAYA GIRÓN – HAVANA.
Morning Breakfast and Check-out.
10:00 hrs. Departure back to Havana.
***PRIZES (in total 10 awards). 9 prizes will be awarded: 3 for each category (1st, 2nd and 3rd place) + 1 Grand Prize, to the highest accumulator of the three categories.

The National Park is considered by ornithologists as the region with the greatest diversity of birds in Cuba, with more than 170 species reported.
The event takes place at the Playa Girón Hotel.
Located on the southern coast of Matanzas province, in the area known as Ciénaga de Zapata. It is very close to two beaches, one is very suitable for diving for its transparent waters and underwater areas covered with corals, gorgonians and sponges, and the other of a wild and quiet nature perfect for meditation. Recommended for nature and water sports lovers. Nestled in a quiet environment, it is ideal for senior and family tourism where, in addition to nature, the rich cultural and historical values of the region are mixed.
